In a sense, work on UBF Survivor began even before I left UBF. I had been keeping a list of things that I thought were not right about the group. Most of these critiques are now listed in my testimony. I believe that the majority of UBF members agree with my critiques, but they have been trained to think that any negative opinion of their organization must be from the devil. After leaving UBF, I compiled extensive notes of my experiences there. In 2005, I envisioned the UBF Survivor site and began designing the pages and the graphics. Almost all of the work on the glossary was completed that year, and I started working on the testimony and resources pages.
During 2006, I found myself thinking about UBF less and less. However, late in the year I renewed work on UBF Survivor during some free time I had. I brought the testimony into shape and began sharing it with friends, who encouraged me to post it. After revamping the site navigation and graphics, I finally felt that I had a finished product. UBF Survivor went online on January 23, 2007.
As a survivor of UBF, I hope that my site will be a useful resource for those in the ex-UBF community, potential UBF recruits, UBFers who are questioning the system, concerned family members, and those interested in the cult problem in general. If you have any suggestions on how my site may better achieve this goal, please let me know. You may send correspondence to the address given below. I am especially interested in hearing about spelling or grammatical errors, errors in site design, and hearing from anyone who might be willing to contribute a definition or two to my glossary.
